Before buying a Great Dane, consider the following:
  • A giant breed costs more to keep - giant beds, bowls, toys, etc.
  • Medications and operations cost more because of the weight of the dog.
  • Basic dog obedience training is highly recommended.
  • This breed can be dangerous to small children without proper training because they are so large.
  • They should only be fed a premium brand of dog food.
  • They require a large amount of human attention.
  • Even though they love to exercise and play outdoors, they do not fare well outside and should alway be considered indoor dogs.
  • The average life span of a Great Dane is 7 to 10 years.
